Sony confirmed the announcement of a new E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens, aimed primarily at video shooters on E-mount.
The Sony Super 35mm / APS-C format power zoom lens starts at 18mm wide angle and extends to 110mm at the telephoto end (27mm – 165mm equiv. in 35mm format), along with 6.1x high zoom ratio, even with inner focus, and maintains a constant F/4 aperture throughout for the beautiful depth of field effects and stable exposure control across the entire standard zoom range.
The Sony 18-110mm f/4 also employs Sony’s Smooth Motion Optics construction to help minimise unwanted focus and also image shifts when zooming in on a subject during filming.
Sony says its SMO technology helps resolve three of the most problematic aspects of the video quality: Focus Breathing, where shifts in angle of view during the focusing are minimised by an internal focus mechanism. Focus shift, where small shifts in focus that can occur whilst zooming, are eliminated by the precise focus tracking adjustment and , where axial image shifts whilst zooming, are minimised by a constant length design.
Although it appears to be similarly specced to the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS lens, that’s a much more expensive and also higher-end option. Featuring 18 elements in 15 groups, a 7 blade circular aperture design and a retail price of US$3500, it is aimed squarely at the professional market. The E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS will be available in November.
